It’s Spring Fling season and that means big money bracket racing at GALOT this weekend. The crew from MotormaniaTV is on hand shooting every pair going down the track and we’ve got all the action right here to watch LIVE. If you are a fan of drag racing, and specifically big money bracket racing, then this is an even you are going to want to watch and be a part of. This sucker is an awesome event at one of the coolest tracks in the country and we wish we were there to be a part of it. Since we can’t, we’ll watch like all of you LIVE. It’s almost as good. If you don’t follow big money bracket racing, you should because it is some of the best drag racing you’ll find anywhere. Cutting lights, side by side, and racing the stripe with margins of victory that are closer than anything else you’ll see in drag racing. We’re talking about 1 thousandth of a second being the difference between winning and losing. This is great drag racing. We know that Cleetus has had some rough spells the past few months, blowing up engines and tearing up parts, but this weekend the crew hopes to be making run after run in both cars. We can’t wait to see them run more, but day 1 was definitely a good one and was fun to watch. In this video you’ll see all their first day adventures, including the introduction of their rental van which is of course LS powered. Could there be rental van burnout shenanigans going on? Well there certainly better, or we’re going to be pissed! Watch the video and let us know what you think of the first day adventures of Cleetus and crew. This year we’ve got Cleetus and Cars burnout contests going on here at Holley LSFest West in the Mr. Chow’s Sideshow Pit and it has been a riot to watch as you can imagine. We certainly can’t wait to see what day 2 here at LSFest West has to offer and we know you guys will be thrilled once that video comes out too. Watch Day 1 action below and we’ll have the next one tomorrow. The post Cleetus Hits LSFest West In Las Vegas With Ruby And Leroy! appeared first on BangShift.com. European showman and stunt driver Steve Murty is behind the wheel of his big Scammell truck wheelstander. This baby is nothing like the sprightly tube chassis wheel standers that we often see at drag strips. Nope, this lumbering giant is a full scale truck with what has to be an absolute load of weight hanging off the back to get it to stand up on command and boy does it stand up. As the title indicates, the lift off part of the performance is no sweat. Even steering the truck around a corner of the road course where the performance is taking place goes without a hiccup, but touching down a massive truck, at a good rate of speed, with the wheels turned is not a good career move for a wheelstander pilot. The truck was working on what seems to be a road course because you’ll note that he gets the rig up on its hind legs to start and then has to immediately get on steering the thing before it goes into the grass. After he gets the truck squared up (with the front end way up in the air) he is on a pretty good run..and then the end comes. We read that he came through the incident ok, but his pride must have been damaged. INCOMING!

Wild Video: European Big Rig Wheelstander Performance Ends Badly published first on https://medium.com/@SinaCarRemovals via Tumblr Wild Video: European Big Rig Wheelstander Performance Ends Badly Here’s a cool video that comes from a group of them being posted by our pals over at the Historic Sportscar Racing series. They call them the “Sound Series” and basically they take two cars and give you clips of each one and you can let your ear holes suck up all the beautiful noise that they are creating. In this case we have an Aston Martin V12, one of the most iconic piston engines ever devised and a small block Ford working between the fenders of a Mustang GT350 on the banks of Daytona. It is funny how much the sound signature of engines varies. Obviously just about every factor of an engine has some effect on the acoustical nature of the exhaust from the camshaft to the cylinder heads, the type of fuel being burned, hell even the outside weather can change that to some degree. There are some people who are absolutely dedicated to loving V8s, some that only love the noise an inline six can make, a few weirdos who really prefer the droning strangeness that many V10s produce (not the old F1 engines, though!). The neat thing about this type of racing, the kind that HSR does is the fact that there are often many different types of cars on the track at once. At a drag race, a stock car race, an Indy Car race, you are going to hear awesome noise but it is usually the same in many respects. In road racing you have different classes, different manufacturers, and very different machines all attacking the course. We’d get as close as we could to the banked portion of the track and listen to each and every car come by at full throat just to drink it all in. We want to know which one of these sounds you prefer! Do You Prefer The Scream Of An Aston Martin V12 Or The Classic Anger Of A Ford Small Block? There are some cars that stand the test of time and we’re here to tell you that the 1992 Pontiac Firebird Firehawk is one of those cars. 25 years ago this thing showed up and performed at a level that is still competitive and impressive today. Seriously. It would run 13.0s in the quarter, it had a nicely beefed suspension for turning corners, it had a swapped in six speed transmission, and it had a tuned up 350ci traditional small block that was tough as nails and would take whatever abuse you chucked at it all day long. No, they were not cheap but the $39,000 spent in 1992 would have been a good investment, especially looking at how these things are coming up in value today. SLP was the company that did the conversion work on the car and yes they were ordered from Pontiac dealers. You started with a Formual Firebird and chose the Firehawk package, waited a few tense weeks and then whamo, your hot rod showed up at the dealer, new car smell and all. Buying one of these things in 1992 put you in a performance space, at least for factory cars, that was pretty wild. Outside of some truly exotic stuff that cost many times the Firehawk, this car could chew ’em up and spit ’em out when it came to other factory built stuff. This Motor Week test from back when the car was new is extra neat because they actually do more than just drag race the car and you get to see some performance driving executed in the car. As as 12-year old kid, I did not have the $39,000 I needed to buy one and sadly my pop was not willing to fork over the dough either but let me tell you something…I tried. I certainly did try! This was not some half assed effort. Starting in the middle 1950s and carrying on for years after the famed 50 Ghia bodied turbine cars were sent out for “public” testing, this was something that took loads of company resources, some of Chrysler’s brightest minds, and was a pretty successful deal if you look past the fact that they never actually sold a turbine powered car. The advancements made in the development of the engine and drivetrain from start to finish are nothing short of astounding. I love the start of the video, especially the sound of the car whooshing off and accelerating away. That was one of the biggest divergent aspects of the car from “normal” machines. The sound was as you’d expect a turbine to sound, airplane-like. Why did the turbine never actually take root in a car for mass production? Why did an engine that can run on any flammable fuel not appeal to executives and decision makers? Why do we not have turbine cars today? Well the answers are all in Lehto’s book and there’s enough of them that he literally wrote the book on the subject. We’ll tell you that it was not one thing that scuttled the turbine from becoming the power plant of choice in America’s production car fleet, it was a few of them stacked up on each other. The engines were expensive to build, the long term forecast for their viability was not great, air quality standards were looming, OPEC was looming, and a litany of other clouds filled the sky with respect to the formerly bright blue future of turbine power. This video captures the car in all of its sexy glory on the track at the Chrysler proving grounds. It is a fantastic look at the car the way we want to remember it. Sleek, lithe, and hauling ass! Racing In The Silverdome: This 1983 Video Shows The Wild World Of Outlaws Midget Race Held Inside!5/3/2019 This is AWESOME and it is the first of two videos we’ll bring out over the next couple of days featuring competition INSIDE the Pontiac Silverdome (which failed to fail the other way when demo crews were attempting to knock it down). BangShift commenter Old Race Fan Joe put us on the scent of this good stuff and boy were his instincts right! They raced all kinds of stuff inside the walls of the Silverdome from ASA stock cars to monster trucks, midgets, and we have also heard that they once trucked dirt in for modifieds but we cannot find video of that madness. This World Of Outlaws Midget race is an awesome one because the action is non-stop and the cars seem to be “right-sized” for this tiny little racing surface. There are a load of big names in this one as well including John Andretti, Kenny Schrader, Marty Davis, and more! The purse for this race was a big one and as you will hear announcer Larry Nuber talk about the size of the purse for this event could match nearly a half a season of winnings for a driver. This is the whole show so you will see the heat races and you will see the main feature. The announcers are claiming that the machines are nearly clipping 100mph along the straights and while we can’t verify it for sure, we can tell you that it sure looks like they are cooking. Midget racing is awesome because you can see right into the cars and watch the drivers work the wheel. We cannot imagine how much the surface changed over the course of the event. The concrete floor had to have been like ice to start and then it likely got better and better as more rubber was built up on the floor. The amount of passing and action here will blow you mind. Guys lift for a moment and lose eight spots. We have showed plenty of indoor racing before but this is on a completely and utterly different level. Imagine what the place smelled like?! Ohhhh it had to have been the perfume of the Gods in there! Being that the NHRA is racing in Atlanta this weekend, we couldn’t help but think about the late Bob Glidden. Remembering legends and their careers is a fun thing. Part of that is thinking about, looking back on, and honoring his career. There’s a pretty reasonable argument that you could make to claim that Bob Glidden is the best NHRA drag racer of all time. Whether you think he’s the best or trails Garlits, you have to admit no matter your brand loyalty that Glidden is a top three racer in history. His insane streak of 13 US Nationals find round appearances in a row, his titles, the wins, and the whole shooting match. The fact he did it in the NHRA and the IHRA, the fact that he came through the stock and super stock ranks to graduate to super stock, the list just goes on and on and on. I could rant for days about how much of a bad ass Bob Glidden was and still is. He doesn’t need me blathering on. Just enjoy the video below and send some good thoughts the way of the Glidden family. Time waits for no man, unfortunately, even one that built some of the baddest naturally aspirated Ford racing engines of all time. If given the option to race time heads up on a pro tree though, I’m taking Glidden ten times out of ten. When the second-generation debuted in late 1994, I liked it, especially in the two-door setup. It looked like the perfect size vehicle, not too small, not too big, and I liked the way GM had managed to incorporate the big-brother truck’s overall look into the mix. I liked that the 4.3L V6 offered up decent power and some relative fuel economy. I actually wanted one. And in 2002, I got one. And immediately proceeded to endure thirteen months of ownership hell. Even in hindsight, I can’t fault the 19-year-old version of myself for my way of thinking. The 1978 Chrysler LeBaron coupe I was driving was really beginning to become a headache: the 318 was beyond worn out, the front suspension had some sincere carnage going on that made alignments impossible, and the rear axle had gone out not a few months beforehand, with the ring gear’s teeth breaking off. I needed a better vehicle, and I figured that a slightly used sport-utility would fit the bill. How bad could a Blazer be? The result: nearly half of the time I owned the Blazer, I was actually driving a Ford F-150 loaner from the dealership while the Blazer’s latest malady was being fixed: stuck throttle, full electronic failure, front end carnage aplenty, fuel system failures…name it, this thing did just about everything except catch fire. The final call was during it’s last “warranty visit”, when a tech who knew me from racing at Temple quietly informed me that I needed to trade the Blazer off immediately before showing me why. Let’s just say that trading the Blazer for a Dodge Ram was the easiest decision I’ve ever made in my life. Ever since then, I look at 1990s-2000s Blazers, S-10s and their platform variations with a tinge of hatred. I’ve stayed away from them, even when in reality they would make for a great vehicle option. I want to like one again. I really do…I liked mine once you looked past the fact that it was a mechanical goat-wrangling session. How could I bring myself to own another? Well, if it was anything like this Blazer Xtreme that Victory Red Colorado caught on film, that wouldn’t be a bad way to go. 195 horsepower was alright back in the day, but nowadays, quite a bit more would be needed to keep my attention, and I always did want mine a little lower than it was… The post Xtreme Opposite: This Is How A 2000s Era Chevrolet Blazer Should Act! appeared first on BangShift.com.
